Baiken Nanalise is the lieutenant of the Third Division, currently serving underneath Captain Sora Inoue. She has served in this position for over 150 years, and has served underneath three captains, two of which died and one betrayed the Soul Society.

Baiken's usual quiet demeanor
Baiken is widely respected as a Shinigami and even more so as a lieutenant, namely for her use of hakuda, healing kidō, and shunpō. Although she is widely respected for her abilities, she doesn't let it go to her head and has a very deflated ego, having a fairly low opinion of herself. This has caused her to become a calm, tranquil individual who rarely speaks, having been taught the principle that women should be seen not heard.

Baiken's full appearance
Baiken is a fairly attractive Shinigami with long dark black hair and light brown eyes, usually covered by a black blindfold. Her hair is worn long, with an un-parted fringe across her forehead and eyes with two strands framing her face and chest. She is one of the characters portrayed as having full lips.
She is one of the Shinigami not to wear the traditional uniform, instead wearing a bikini-type outfit that consists of a red bikini-top, and dark black bikini bottoms. Attached to her shirt is a dark brown jacket, which is mostly open and is held closed at the top with a purple brass button. Her bottoms have a similar attachment, instead having what looks like a cape attached to them, which is red with swirly green belt-like accessories and yellow hemming. She also wears a set of dark black gloves, with blue and yellow cuffs.
